5 quick tips to freshen up your home
We’re getting closer and closer to the end of summer every day, and you may be feeling the urge to do some spring cleaning again in preparation for the fall. Well, in addition to putting away your summer decorations, here are five quick tips to freshen up your house:
1. A coat of paint
This one is a pretty standard suggestion, but it’s standard for a reason- a vivid color can make a room more lively, a white coat can brighten it up, and a neutral color can bring a calming feel to the room. Even just painting one wall as an accent can make a room feel fresh.
2. Flowers
This tip is good whether it’s spring, with its plethora of lovely flowers, or winter, where you can use evergreens and poinsettias. Bringing a little bit of outside in adds an organic feel and gives you a nice boost of seratonin.
3. Rearrange your furniture
Want a room to feel new again for zero money? Rearrange your furniture! There are plenty of layout suggestions online, or you can wing it and plan it yourself. Even moving a chair across the room can make it feel so much more inviting.
4. Hang up photos
Got a bunch of photographs sitting around you swear you’ll scrapbook someday? Grab a few frames (you can either splurge for some nicer ones or get some good basics at Walmart, Target, and even local thrift stores) and put those memories out around the house. (Or you could just pin up the photographs, no frames needed.) Tip for apartments (and low effort picture hanging): if the frame isn’t very heavy, you can use a thumbtack to hang it instead of a nail- smaller hole to fill, no hammer needed to hang.
5. Declutter
It’s always a good time to get rid of a few items you don’t use or need anymore, and this will always, always, always make the home look fresher and more spacious. Even if you set aside a time limit (twenty to thirty minutes is good) or item amount (five items are easier to get rid of than you may think) instead of cleaning all day, that decluttering will make you and your home happier.
