4 Steps to A DIY Fire Pit
Fall is hands down one of the most beautiful seasons, and what is better than enjoying that beauty by a nice warm fire on a cool night? Add some s’mores to the equation, and you are living the fall dream.
What if we told you that you don’t have to go camping to enjoy a nice fire? Even better, what if we told you that you could enjoy this fall dream and add value to you home?
Outdoor areas add value to your home, especially in Huntsville, where the weather stays nice for longer than cities in other states.
Any real estate agent in Huntsville would agree, a nice fire pit in the back yard makes for a great surprise at the end of a house tour, and home buyers are generally quite pleased.
That is why, today, we have decided to share with you the secret to creating a beautiful DIY fire pit!
#1: Get Your Supplies
First, you’ll need to head to Home Depot or Lowes and buy supplies, including:
- spray paint
- digging tool, preferably a shovel
- gravel
- concrete landscape stones
- metal fire pit ring
- landscape block adhesive
#2: Design The Ring
The very first step necessary is to outline your fire pit.
First, lay the metal ring down on the ground where you would like your fire pit to be located. Then, set a few stones up against your metal ring the way it will lie when complete. This will help you understand the outer circumference of the ring for digging. Use the spray paint to outline the outer circle and then remove your stones and metal ring.
#3: Digging and Laying Bricks
For the next step you will want to dig inside your spray painted circle. The hole should be about six inches deep. Try to make the bottom level as even as possible, but perfection is not necessary as the gravel will fill in the holes.
Once you have completed your digging, pour in your gravel. Your gravel should have enough coverage that you can no longer see the ground, but still be a fairly thin layer.
Insert your metal ring into the middle of your fire pit and begin laying the first layer of brick around it. Try to make sure the top of your bricks align at the same height. If you need to, tap the tops of your blocks with a rubber mallet to ensure there is no height difference.
Using your landscape block adhesive, begin your second layer of bricks. The adhesive works as a glue that keeps each layer of brick attached. Continue this process until your bricks reach the tip of your inner metal ring.
#4: Enjoy
At this point your stunning new fire pit is complete! Put some Adirondack chairs around it, light up a tree with some white Christmas lights, get out your s’more ingredients, and enjoy!
Remember though, any work involving heavy items and tools is dangerous and requires appropriate care.
