Fun Day Trips from Huntsville
Looking to get out of Huntsville for a little bit and see what else this area has to offer? Look no further: we’ve rounded up a list of locations you can visit within two hours of Rocket City!
Scottboro
Time: just under an hour
For a day of thrifting, go to Scottsboro! This is the home of Unclaimed Baggage, a huge secondhand shop that sells (as the name suggests) unclaimed baggage from around the world (fun fact: this is the only retailer of unclaimed baggage in the US). There are also antique shops and local restaurants for you to enjoy before making the short trip home.
Chattanooga
Time: 1 hour, 45 minutes
If you want to visit a city with a quirky local vibe, head to Chattanooga! There’s something for everyone here, from shopping to great food to an aquarium and a zoo. It’s also worth a drive through the beautiful Lookout Mountain nearby, where you can see Fairyland Caverns (and the streets are named after fairy tales such as Red Riding Hood Trail and Cinderella Road).
Guntersville
Time: roughly 40 minutes
Guntersville is a relaxing small town that circles a beautiful lake perfect for water activities. If you want a retreat to quiet and nature, stay a few nights here and enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, and some really good catfish.
Nashville
Time: just under 2 hours
Did you know Nashville was so close? The home of country music is the place to go if you want to get out and have a blast. There is so much to do that we suggest having a solid plan before visiting, but you won’t be disappointed.
Birmingham
Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes
The Magic City is a hub of activity, from big tours to a thriving downtown and amazing food options. Shopping, hiking, checking out breweries, finding local gems, you name it: Birmingham is the place to see.
Mentone
Time: 1 hour, 25 minutes
Mentone is a beautiful small town, and is ideal for a quiet weekend away. Full of antique shops and some local restaurants, Mentone is even more removed from Huntsville and a great place to retreat.
