October Events in the Tennessee Valley

Fall is finally here, and October is bringing in a lot of great events here in the Tennessee Valley! Check out our list of what’s happening this month!

 

Huntsville Ghost Walk

Fridays & Saturdays in October | 6pm

Starts at Harrison Brothers Hardware Store

The Huntsville Ghost Walk will begin another chilling season on Friday, September 1, 2023. All tours begin at Harrison Brothers Hardware Store, located at 124 South Side Square, promptly at 6 p.m. You choose one of three guided tours through the Twickenham District, the Old Town District, or the Downtown District.

Hear stories from Huntsville’s haunted past and learn why the spirits remain. Tickets are $13 for adults, $8 for children 12 and under.Walking tours are every Friday and Saturday in September and October. Many fun areas including arts and crafts, exhibits, demonstrations, entertainment, a variety of food vendors, a community parade, information vendors, a sponsor row, and a children’s and teen area with lots of activities. Come spend the day with us on the first Saturday in October from 9:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m.

Outlaw Music Festival

October 11 | 5:50pm

The Orion Amphitheater

Spearheaded by no less than the iconic figure, Willie Nelson!  The Outlaw Music Festival started out in 2016 and turned into an annual shape-shifting celebration of roots-based music’s many forms. Dipping into rock, country, folk, blues and bluegrass. The festival has included many great artists from Alison Krauss to Sheryl Crow. This is one event for the books! Make sure to get your tickets while they last.

Punkin’ Pickin’ Extravaganza

October 14th | 11am

Join us for our Punkin’ Pickin’ Extravaganza!  An alternative to the traditional pumpkin patch, the North Alabama Railroad Museum is combining the thrill of picking a pumpkin with the excitement of a train ride!!  Everyone will board the train at the Mercury & Chase Depot and ride through the woods to Normal, AL.  All passengers will then disembark the train to visit our very own pumpkin patch.  Every child will be able to choose his or her very own pumpkin to take home!  We always get our pumpkins from Lyon Family Farms and they are beautiful every year!!  Our 1949 Southern Railway Pullman Sleeper coach will be pulled along for this ride (however, no food or drink will be offered during this short excursion).  Order your tickets early, as this ride is always a sell-out!

4 Departures: 9:30am, 11am, 1pm, and 2:30pm.

Ticket Prices: All passengers – $20 require a ticket, regardless of age;
Coach 2006 VIP suites and roomettes – $25 per person ($300 per suite, $50 per roomette)
Suites will hold 6 people, 4 adults max, no exceptions; Roomettes will hold 2 people max, no exceptions.  Suites and Roomette tickets are sold individually, but all seats in the suite or roomette must be purchased.  Partial purchases are not allowed.

Bluegrass BBQ Festival

October 14 | 2pm – 8pm

South Side Park

Join South Huntsville Main and Commissioner Phil Riddick for an afternoon full of lively Bluegrass music at Southside Park on Chaney Thompson Road! Back again this year is cherished bluegrass band Three on a String and joining them are Iron Horse, and Grasstronaughts. First band goes on at 2pm and the last band starts at 6pm. Grab your picnic blanket or chair and enjoy some great music in South Huntsville! The event is free and food trucks will be available.

Records & Retro

October 15 | 11am – 5pm

The Orion Amphitheater

After a whirlwind of enthusiasm and support the first year, we are stoked to announce the 2nd Annual Records & Retro: A Market to Celebrate All Things Groovy presented by Vertical House Records! This funtacular event will take place at The Orion Amphitheater on Sunday, October 15th from 11 AM -5 PM!
Shop over 100 booths featuring all kinds of items! From some of the nation’s most beloved record shops and labels that will have LPs and 45s, to folks who have incredible collections of retro music equipment, cassettes, CDs, VHS, video games, books, clothing, furniture, tchotchkes, and SO much more! The market will also feature live music, DJs, food trucks, and a wonderful day of community! This event is free to attend!

iFest 2023

Huntsville’s JAYCEE’S Building | 2180 Airport Road

Come celebrate the multiculturality and heritage of people from all over the world that now reside in North Alabama. There will be booths to represent different countries, performances, food trucks, and a lot of excitement. Doors open at 10 AM with a parade of all countries present. We encourage everyone to come dressed up in special attire that represents their countries if they have it.

Blossomwood Witches Ride

October 29 | 4:30pm

Blossomwood neighborhood

The Blossomwood Witches Ride (BWR) is a fun bike ride through the neighborhood of Blossomwood. Women dress up as witches, ride their brooms (bikes) and throw candy to the little monsters (kids) along the posted route. ALL children are welcome to come out and enjoy the free candy.  Children are asked to be accompanied by an adult to safely walk on the sidewalks while the witches fly by. Although we do proudly carry the Blossomwood name (due to location), witches from anywhere are welcome to ride!!! JOIN THE BLOCK PARTY AFTERWARDS!
